An initial consultation is a first assessment. A follow-up reviews progress and results. If you have not been seen for some time, Dr Spiliotis may advise a new initial consultation rather than a follow-up.
You're welcome to refer yourself. A GP referral isn't required for self-pay, though any recent results or a short GP summary help. Payment is due when you book or at the time of your consultation, as the practice advises.
Dr Spiliotis is recognised by the insurers below. Before booking, obtain a pre-authorisation number from your insurer and check that your policy covers outpatient consultations and diagnostics.
For Bupa, consultations covered by your policy are charged within the insurer's agreed rates, so there is no shortfall for you to pay on consultation fees. You remain responsible for any excess or co-payment on your policy, and for anything your policy does not cover.
If your insurer is not listed, you are welcome to be seen on a self-pay basis.
A prescription issued at your consultation is included in the consultation fee.
A prescription issued between appointments, for example a repeat, is charged at £30 per prescription. When the prescription is sent electronically to a pharmacy, this fee may be collected together with the pharmacy's payment; it is not part of the price of the medicine. Insurers do not usually cover this fee.
The medicine itself is charged by the pharmacy at its own price. The practice takes no margin on medicines.
Continued prescribing depends on the follow-up and monitoring Dr Spiliotis advises. He may decline to issue a prescription, or stop one, where he judges it is not clinically appropriate.
Contact and charges
This is the practice's policy on contact between visits, and on what is charged.
No further charge:
In person or by video, at the follow-up fee:
Significant new advice needs a proper review rather than a message, so anything beyond a brief clarification is arranged as a follow-up. Prescriptions issued between appointments are charged as set out above. Detailed reports, insurance claim forms and medico-legal or third-party letters are charged separately and quoted in advance.
Prescriptions & monitoring. Treatment started privately is prescribed and monitored through the practice unless your GP agrees to take it over under a shared-care arrangement. Your NHS GP is not obliged to do so.
How to reach the practice. For non-urgent queries, email secretary@hertsendocrinology.co.uk, or telephone 01908 014486. The practice normally replies within one to two working days.
Please give at least 24 hours' notice if you need to change or cancel an appointment, so that the time can be offered to someone else.
If you book by telephone, email or online, you have a legal right to cancel within 14 days, starting the day after your booking is made, without giving a reason. If you cancel within that period and before your consultation has taken place, anything you have paid for it is refunded in full. If you would like an appointment within those 14 days, the practice will ask you to confirm this, and you cannot cancel under this right once the consultation has taken place.
After the 14-day period, or if you booked in person at the clinic, an appointment cancelled with at least 24 hours' notice is refunded in full where it has been paid for in advance, and an appointment cancelled with less notice may be charged. An appointment missed without notice may be charged at the full consultation fee.
Private medical insurers do not usually cover cancellation or missed appointment charges.
