Terms

Terms & policies

The practical terms on which the practice sees patients: fees, appointments, prescriptions and how concerns are handled.

Who you are contracting with

Private consultations are provided by Meridian Medical Consulting Ltd, trading as The Hertfordshire Endocrine & Metabolic Clinic, registered in England and Wales (company number 17300898), registered office 78 High Street, Newport Pagnell, England, MK16 8AQ.

Fees & payment

Consultation fees are shown on the Fees page and confirmed before your appointment. For self-pay patients, payment is due when you book or at the time of your consultation, as the practice advises, by card or bank transfer.

Follow-up consultations

A follow-up consultation is charged at the follow-up rate. This rate applies regardless of how long the appointment lasts (a brief review is charged at the same rate as a longer one), because the fee reflects the clinical review, the decisions made and the time spent before and after the appointment, not simply the minutes in the room.

Investigations & procedures

Blood tests, scans and other investigations are charged separately by the hospital or laboratory that carries them out, at their own rates. Please ask about costs before tests are arranged.

Clinical decisions

Which investigations are needed, when they are done, whether any treatment is prescribed, and how often you are reviewed are decided by Dr Spiliotis on clinical grounds, in discussion with you. Booking a consultation does not guarantee a particular test, diagnosis, prescription or outcome.

Using private insurance

If you are claiming on private medical insurance, obtain pre-authorisation and your membership and authorisation numbers before your appointment. You remain responsible for any excess or co-payment on your policy, and for any charges your policy does not cover. Where consultations are charged within an insurer's agreed rates, there is no shortfall to pay on consultation fees; the position for each recognised insurer is set out on the Fees page. Some services, including medically supervised weight management, are typically not covered by insurers and are arranged on a self-pay basis.

Cancellations and missed appointments

Please give at least 24 hours' notice to change or cancel an appointment. If you book by telephone, email or online, you also have a legal right to cancel within 14 days of booking. The full policy, including when a charge applies, is on the Fees page.

Refunds

If the practice cancels or rearranges your appointment, any payment already made for it is refunded in full, or carried over to a new appointment if you prefer. Fees for consultations that have taken place are not refunded. If you think you have been charged in error, contact the practice; a charge made in error is refunded to the original payment method. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights.

Between appointments

A brief question arising from a consultation in the previous four weeks is included. A new problem, a review of treatment, or results that need discussion are arranged as a follow-up. Prescriptions issued between appointments are charged per prescription. Full details are on the Fees page.

Prescriptions, monitoring & shared care

A prescription is issued only where Dr Spiliotis judges it clinically appropriate, after a consultation. Continued prescribing depends on the follow-up and monitoring he advises, and he may decline or stop a prescription on clinical grounds. Ongoing prescribing and monitoring remain with the practice unless a shared-care arrangement is agreed with your GP. Prescription fees are set out on the Fees page.

Reports, letters & forms

The written summary after your visit is included. More detailed reports, insurance or claim forms, and medico-legal letters may be charged, and will be quoted in advance.

Results

Dr Spiliotis reviews the results of tests he requests and tells you the outcome, in writing or at a follow-up appointment, as he judges appropriate. If a result needs earlier attention, you will be contacted. Timescales depend on the test and the laboratory.

AI transcription

Dr Spiliotis uses AI transcription software in consultations to help him keep an accurate record. It produces a transcript and a draft letter, which he checks and corrects before anything is added to your record; the audio is not stored. You will be told when it is in use, and you can ask for it not to be used, before or at any point during the consultation, without any effect on your care or the fee. Transcripts are held for up to six months and then deleted, unless one is needed to deal with a query, complaint or claim. The privacy policy has more detail.

Recording your consultation

You are welcome to make an audio recording of your consultation for your own use, to help you understand your care. To protect the privacy of patients and staff, a video recording needs Dr Spiliotis's explicit agreement before it starts. A recording, audio or video, must not be shared publicly without the express written consent of Dr Spiliotis and of anyone else who can be heard or seen in it. Dr Spiliotis does not make audio or video recordings of consultations. This applies equally to video consultations.

Not an emergency service

This is a planned outpatient service and is not for emergencies or urgent same-day problems. If you feel unwell or your symptoms worsen, contact your GP, call NHS 111, or in an emergency call 999.

Concerns & complaints

If something has not met your expectations, please raise it with the practice first. If a concern is not resolved, you can also use the complaints process of the hospital where you were seen, and you may contact the General Medical Council.

Regulation & indemnity

Dr Spiliotis is registered with the General Medical Council (7044495) with a licence to practise, works in accordance with the GMC's Good Medical Practice, and holds professional indemnity for his private work. Financial interests are set out on the About page.
